Kate Mills Died.
Kate Mills died this weekend. The brilliant Kate Mills was a career journalist and historian who covered civil rights issues better than most. Mills most recently brought the memory of Fannie Lou Hamer to life in her biography This Little Light of Mine. Fannie Lou's struggle for the right to vote and her courage in demanding accountability from the government taught me what being 'sick and tired' truly meant. I remember reading Harper and the other voter qualification cases in Con Law. They were nothing but exercises in sterile analysis until I read Fannie Lou . . . because then it all became real.
